Licensing, freedom of expression and nation-building

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission received 8,399 cyberbullying cases from January to November last year.

IT is hoped that the government will continue to uphold freedom of expression within the confines of the law, while enforcing a new licensing requirement for social media platforms and Internet messaging services with at least eight million users.

This measure, effective from Jan 1, 2025, aims to curb online cyberbullying, financial scams and sexual crimes.
