MAHB November passenger traffic expands by 16%


MAHB said international passenger movements continued to display resilience.

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd’s (MAHB) network of airports registered 11.2 million total passenger movements, recording a double-digit growth of 16.1% over November 2023 and trending close to pre-pandemic levels at 96.7%.

In a statement, MAHB said international passenger movements continued to display resilience, reaching 54% of traffic share and exceeding pre-pandemic traffic share of 48%, recording 9.1% growth over pre-pandemic levels with six million passengers.

“Domestic passenger movements recorded 5.1 million passengers, an increase of 10% over November 2023.”

MAHB said its airports in Malaysia recorded a total of 7.7 million passenger movements, an increase of 15.8% over November 2023, reaching 88.7% of pre-pandemic levels.

“International and domestic passenger movements registered 4.1 million and 3.6 million passengers, reaching 93.9% and 83.4% respectively over November 2019.”

Separately, MAHB said Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen International Airport continued to thrive, recording double-digit growth of 16.6% in traditionally a low month with 3.5 million passenger movements in November 2024, representing a 20.7% increase over pre-pandemic levels.

“The international sector has been the main driver of growth, recording an impressive double-digit growth of 68.2% over pre-pandemic levels, with 1.9 million passengers. Domestic passenger movements showed steady performance, registering 1.6 million passengers,” it said.
