XOX eyes increase in subscriber numbers via collaboration with KDDI Malaysia


KUALA LUMPUR: XOX Bhd expects to increase the number of its subscribers to 3.5 million next year from 2.5 million currently following a collaboration with KDDI Malaysia Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Japan-headquartered KDDI Corporation, to explore commercial opportunities and develop new products and services that will benefit their respective customers in Malaysia and Japan.

As part of the collaboration, XOX and KDDI will be providing telecommunication services such as e-SIM to subscribers, deploying XOX’s SpaceX vending machines and joint developing of XOX’s Nimbus mobile application as a value-added service to both parties’ mobile consumers across all regions in Japan and Malaysia.

The collaboration also includes the utilisation of both companies’ latest technologies to facilitate the development and enhance the value of investment projects undertaken by XOX.

"There are about 1,200 Japanese companies that have their operations in Malaysia and since their employees frequently visit our country, they are our target market,” XOX executive director Roy Ho Yew Kee told reporters after announcing the collaboration today.

He said XOX is also targeting Malaysian tourists and business travellers to Japan.

Ho said the partnership with one of Japan’s leading telecommunication providers would allow XOX to offer its customers in Malaysia and Japan a wider range of products and services.

"We are constantly looking at ways how to continuously add more value to our customers such as an increasing demand for affordable retail data storage,” he said.

He said XOX also planned to expand its exploration commercial opportunities to China, Singapore, Thailand and Australia in the next few years.

KDDI Malaysia managing director Masaki Matsuura said the company is looking forward to the collaboration as it works to solve social issues as an infrastructure and technology company as well as contributing to Malaysian society.

"Telecommunications is now integral to various parts of society and is indispensable to people’s daily lives.

"XOX Nimbus application allows users to manage digital media without utilising internal storage on their devices and its integration into XOX’s mobile ecosystem presents opportunities for increased product transactions, direct sales and advertising,” he added.

KDDI Malaysia is an integrated telecommunications services that offers a multitude of communication services such as mobile and fixed-line broadband services, mobile communication and fixed-line communication under au brand.

At lunch break, shares of XOX was up half-a-sen to 15 sen with 3.59 million shares transacted. - Bernama
