MBSB Bank in tie-up with CelcomDigi


MBSB Bank said both companies intend to collaborate on finding new commercial opportunities and joint go-to-market activities that will benefit their customers and employees.

PETALING JAYA: MBSB Bank Bhd has inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with CelcomDigi (a merger of Celcom Axiata Bhd and Digi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd) to explore opportunities in end-to-end smart- banking solutions.

Among the solutions include comprehensive services for cyber security, smart-retail solutions financing and cloud infrastructure technology.

In a statement, the bank said both companies, additionally, intend to collaborate on finding new commercial opportunities and joint go-to-market activities that will benefit their customers and employees.

The MoU was signed by MBSB Bank CEO Datuk Nor Azam M. Taib and CelcomDigi CEO Datuk Mohamad Idham Nawawi, who was appointed to the role in early December 2022, at a signing ceremony held in CelcomDigi Tower.

The partnership is part of the Islamic bank’s continuous digitalisation journey to future-proof its banking operations and enrich customers’ experiences.

“This maiden partnership between the bank and the country’s largest telecommunications company will support MBSB Bank to continue serving its customers better and at the same time, enhance its operational efficiency,” the statement said.

Expressing his optimism on this development, Nor Azam said partnering with CelcomDigi is certainly a key milestone especially in the banking industry, which has become increasingly competitive due to technological advances.

“Hence, it is our hope that working strategically with a market leader can accelerate our progress in that space,” he noted.

Speaking of its future development, Nor Azam said the bank looks to establish industrial Internet of Things solutions as part of the business financing, focusing on green tech adoption, automation and quality assurance.

“We also intend to leverage on cloud technology in order to advance our digital capabilities as this shall help to increase our competitiveness level,” he added.

Meanwhile, Idham said the merged entity believes that it has the right expertise and resources that can help advance MBSB Bank’s digital capabilities, as the bank progresses in leveraging technology to bring enhanced products, services and experiences for its customers.

According to him, CelcomDigi is MBSB Bank’s trusted digital partner to support their digitalisation needs.

“We look forward to unlocking more value from our synergies, as we innovate together while supporting the nation’s digital agenda,” he said.
