Emico temporarily halts Penang plant 2 operation following fire incident

KUALA LUMPUR: The operation of Emico Penang Plant 2 in Bayan Lepas, Penang, is temporarily halted pending the restoration of power supply due to a fire incident on Jan 8, 2023, said Emico Holdings Bhd.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, the company said the fire incident occurred at one of the two manufacturing plants of Emico Penang Sdn Bhd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Emico.

"The fire started at approximately 3 am on Sunday. None of the workers were injured and there was no casualty resulting from the incident.

"The damages caused by the fire had affected, amongst others, the stocks in transit area, packaging and office area, as well as the Tenaga Nasional sub-station," it said.

Emico said the management is mitigating the production disruption by expediting the appointment of contractors, as well as rescheduling the shipment of goods.

Currently, the fire department is in the midst of conducting an investigation to ascertain the cause of fire, it added.
