Yushida believes it is beneficial to identify the types of job groups.

KUALA LUMPUR: The digital workplace has become a central part of the work experience in many organisations.

With the working world constantly changing and flexible work arrangements being adopted by organisations, four speakers will be sharing their insights in the upcoming The Star Outstanding Business Awards (SOBA) Lab webinar entitled “Future of Work: Reinventing the Digital Workspace”.

Small and medium enterprises (SME) can tune into the webinar conducted in Bahasa Malaysia on Thursday, at 3pm, by registering at bit.ly/edsobalab2 or scanning the QR code here.

The speakers will be Malaysia External Trade Development Corp (Matrade) information technology section director Jamaluddin Abdullah, Credit Guarantee Corp Malaysia Bhd (CGC) chief technology and operations officer Yushida Husin, PKT Logistics Group Sdn Bhd chief operating officer Jason Cheah and RHB Bank Bhd SME Digital Banking squad lead Zilhazran Md Hamzah.

This discussion will be moderated by Talent Corp Malaysia Bhd (TalentCorp) vice-president of group research, development and policy Mahuran Saro Sariki.

The panellists will be explaining the feasibility for most companies to transition to digital workspace given the existing resources available post Covid-19 pandemic.

Jamaluddin said: “It is feasible to transition to a digital workspace with sufficient capital and human resources.

“Companies should take this opportunity to leverage facilities and support by the government and financial institutions to expedite their digitalisation adoption.“

Yushida said that “it is beneficial to identify the types of job groups and functions, work out the best arrangements to suit the groups, while giving line managers specific flexibility to decide on work arrangements.”

Cheah added: “If the company puts (digital workspace) as a priority task, they will work on a solution to implement it.

“Implementing that does not need all (your) resources to work on it.”

Zilhazran said employees would be more productive and understand that management trusts them to perform their job responsibilities well outside the office.

“Consider how a digital workspace can be used to strengthen the company’s employees’ experience and this will, in turn improve customer service.”

He added that employees are able to work together seamlessly, regardless of location and feel connected despite not seeing each other in the office.

The speakers will also be highlighting various initiatives that their organisations are currently undertaking to support digital workspace transformation.

Jamaluddin said: “To ensure the transformation is successful, the change in management process needs to be implemented.

“There must [also] be continuous feedback from users as well as prompt action to facilitate the transformation agenda.”

Yushida said: “As we transition towards more flexible approaches in managing the needs of employees, talents should be explored, such as constant awareness sessions to provide high online security awareness and training to ensure the correct deployment of technology, among others.”

Cheah said PKT conducts internal training to upgrade its staffs’ digital workspace skills.

Zilhazran said that the bank implements technologies and procedures to ensure the protection of data, while continuing to make it available on multiple devices.

He said banks focus on digital transformations that emphasise the customer’s journey, such as mobile apps and the web.

“Digital transactions have increased significantly from 64% in 2017 to 93% last year, and we expect for this to accelerate to 95% by 2024,” he said.

The speakers will also be elaborating on some of the hurdles faced by the organisations in implementing digital workspaces.

Jamaluddin said this included common challenges in terms of acceptance by users, while Yushida included security of staff remote access and getting people to adjust accordingly, among others.

Cheah added changing users’ perspectives in digital workspace solutions and the costs involved.

Zilhazran listed managing employees’ satisfaction, IT security and data breach protection, attracting workforce talents and more.

They will also be sharing if the organisations have to adjust their operational model or redefine investment priorities to cater to this rapid transformation.

The speakers will also highlight success stories of their organisation’s digitalisation initiatives.

Jamaluddin will be elaborating, among other things, on an online business matching programme between Malaysian suppliers and foreign buyers, while Yushida will share on the success of their staff, especially their senior personnel, in embracing technology during the pandemic.

Cheah will elaborate on how PKT leverages on the power of robotic process automation while Zilhazran will share how RHB assisted SMEs during the Covid-19 lockdowns.

The panellists will also impart valuable input for SMEs on how to keep up with the ever-changing demands of a workforce, changes in attitudes, adaptability and full commitments to remaining relevant in the global marketplace
