Proton unveils four new SE models

KUALA LUMPUR: Proton Holdings Bhd (Proton) has unveiled four new special edition (SE) models in its line-up, namely, the Persona and Exora Black Edition, as well as Iriz and Saga R3 Limited Edition, priced at RM55,600, RM69,800, RM44,800 and RM53,700, respectively.

During the virtual launch, Proton Edar Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Roslan Abdullah said in line with the sales tax exemption under the National Economic Recovery Plan (PENJANA) scheme, Proton will be offering special on-the-road prices (without insurance) for its SE models -- Persona (RM54,700), Exora (RM67,800), Saga (RM42,300) and Iriz (RM52,900).

"The SE models are designed to satisfy customer demand for unique Proton models, following the successful launch of the Saga Anniversary Edition on July 9 last year, which saw all 1,100 units sold within just five days,” he said.

Roslan said these are locally manufactured cars, targeting Malaysian car buyers, and are reminders that Proton would always be a ‘full-service’ car manufacturer with the ability to design, develop and build its own cars.

"And now, with the support from our partner, Geely, we are able to develop new models featuring new technology at a much faster pace," he said.

On the design, Proton chief designer Azlan Othman said the Persona and Exora Black Edition’s black with gold accents subtly accentuated the bumpers and alloy wheels.

As for the interior, both models come with black leatherette seats, door trims and floor console, with the Persona receiving the black treatment for the headlining, while the Exora is fitted with an overhead monitor, he said.

"While style and luxury are the main thrusts of the Black Edition models, the Proton Iriz and Saga R3 Limited Edition celebrate Proton’s successful motorsports division.

"The R3 badge has always been reserved for the sportiest Proton models, and both the Iriz and Saga are worthy recipients of this moniker," he said, adding that the cars would bear the distinctive R3 livery used on Proton's race cars.

"The Iriz is equipped with 16-inch R3 alloy wheels, while the Saga is equipped with 15-inch alloy wheels with matte grey finish.

"The sporty R3 body kit completes the outer changes, while inside, the unique black-yellow interior, leatherette seats and R3 carpet mats create a distinctive ambience with a sporty appeal," he said. - Bernama
