PETALING JAYA: Berjaya Auto Alliance Sdn Bhd (BAASB) has been awarded the sole distributorship for Peugeot cars as well as after-sales and spare parts distribution for Peugeot, Citroen and DS cars in Malaysia by Groupe PSA.
Berjaya Corp
Bhd and Bermaz Auto Bhd
hold 51% and 20% stakes respectively in BAASB.
Previously, Naza Group was the sole distributor for the three French vehicle marques.
In a joint press statement, Groupe PSA stated the new partnership would enable the French automaker to continue to pursue its growth strategy in Malaysia.
“Groupe PSA has made Malaysia its export hub for the region.
“Our product line-up of award-winning sport utility vehicles (SUVs) – Peugeot 3008 and 5008 – has garnered a lot of attention here in the past few years.
“As such, we strive to continue the momentum through exciting new models and aftersales initiatives, ” said Groupe PSA senior vice-president (South-East Asia) Laurence Noel.
He added that there were plans to launch the new Peugeot 2008 in the country.
Berjaya Corp CEO Datuk Seri Robin Tan Yeong Ching said the new collaboration will complement the group’s existing automotive business, namely, HR Owen Plc and Berjaya China Motor Sdn Bhd.
“We are pleased to be given this opportunity to be part of the new collaboration (via BAASB) with Groupe PSA, one of Europe’s largest vehicle manufacturers, listed on the Euronext Paris Stock Exchange, ” said Tan.
Bermaz Auto executive chairman Datuk Seri Ben Yeoh (file pic) said the new collaboration is expected to contribute positively to the company’s future earnings base.
“Peugeot, Citroen and DS are European marque cars well-known for their driving comfort, smooth handling, modern designs, durability and state-of-the-art technology, ” said Yeoh.
