PETALING JAYA: The Vietnam Banking Trade Union has given Public Bank founder Tan Sri Teh Hong Piow a personal award for his contribution towards establishing and sustaining a strong corporate culture; and promoting the well-beings of Public Bank Vietnam Ltd (PBVN) staff.
He was given the Outstanding contribution in promoting excellence at work and in strengthening trade union in 2019 award.
Although it is a personal award for Teh, Public Bank Bhd managing director Tan Sri Tay Ah Lek (pic below) said it was nonetheless, a proud moment for all in Public Bank as they feel an equal sense of achievement and pride in Teh’s personal triumph.
Teh is also Public Bank’s chairman emeritus, director and adviser.
In his speech at the award presentation ceremony on Sept 22, Tay said Teh has always believed that the banking group’s respect and influence is dependent on the virtues and standards the group is able to develop and maintain.
“There are core corporate values of integrity, competence and professionalism, hard work and prudence, ” Tay said.
This is the first time the Vietnam Banking Trade Union has honoured a non-resident of Vietnam, and with the recognition certificate signed by Dao Minh Tu, the deputy governor of the State Bank of Vietnam, who is also the chairman of the executive board of Vietnam Banking Trade Union.
Acknowledging the award, Teh said entrepreneurship is tough business.
“Hence, it is important that I make it my priority to develop talents who understand the business and is serious to excel.”
He likened his role in the bank as a gardener providing water and nourishment to plants in a garden, in this case, the bank’s staff.
“To get to where we are, to be recognised as an employer committed to the well-being and talent development of our employees, one needs to shoulder the responsibility of keeping the staff in mind in every decision, ” Teh said.
The award comes with a Crystal Trophy and a token sum of 750,000 Vietnamese Dong (VND).
Teh dedicated the award to “the committed staff of Public Bank.”
“Nothing stops them from doing what is best for our stakeholders. They are the unsung heroes who have stood the test of time with me, weathering financial storms and economic turmoil, to come out unscathed while creating milestones that are enviable to many.”
