ASNB cautions about scam messages using name and logo

Amanah Saham Nasional Bhd (ASNB) has cautioned the public about scam messages offering investment packages and using its name and logo.

KUALA LUMPUR: Amanah Saham Nasional Bhd (ASNB) has cautioned the public about scam messages offering investment packages and using its name and logo.

In a statement issued on Wednesday it said there was a message circulated via WhatApps by the name of ASNB Group to deceive the public to invest in a scam investment package.

"In the message, the purported sender who claims to represent the ASNB Group uses the Amanah Saham Nasional Bhd name and logo without ASNB’s authorisation. The scam offers an investment package which promises an extraordinary return in a short period of time.

“Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB) reiterates that the usage of logo and the promotion of the investment package by the ASNB group are unauthorised, ” it said,

Commenting on the modus operandi of the scam, it said if the receivers are interested to invest, they will only need to deposit a certain amount of money into the stated bank account through online banking.

“The money will then be purportedly traded in oil, stock and currency markets while investors only need to wait for the profits to be credited directly into their accounts.

“ASNB takes this matter very seriously and will not hesitate to take legal actions against the perpetrator.

“ASNB has lodged a police report regarding the message and would like to advise the public to be cautious and contact ASNB customer service centre if they receive any suspicious message about investment packages under ASNB’s name, ” it said.

ASNB said it had never appointed any individual to offer any investment packages either directly or through WhatApps or any other messaging application. ASNB has also never used and not related to the ASNB Group for any product promotion and publicity activities.

It said investors should visit any ASNB branch or agent first to open an investment account with their original identification card.

Online additional investment, on the other hand, can be performed through myASNB portal and our registered online banking services such as Maybank2u, CIMBClicks, RHB Now and AffinOnline.

ASNB also cautioned it would not be responsible for any loss arising from investments in any scheme that is not authorised by ASNB.
