Vehicles sales rose 6pc in July due to zero-rated GST

KUALA LUMPUR: The sales volume of vehicles in July 2018 rose 6% from the preceding month to 68,465 units on the back of lower prices due to the zero-rating of the GST during the period.

“At 68,465 units, the sales volume in July 2018 was the second highest monthly total industry volume (TIV) achieved in the history of the local automotive industry,” the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) said in a statement.

Year-on-year, sales volume for the month rose 41% or by 19, 912 units.

The highest monthly TIV achieved by the industry was 69371 units in December 2015.

The association said sales volume for August 2018 was expected to be maintained at the July 2018 level due to the continuation of the tax holiday period.
