KUALA LUMPUR: Pos Malaysia Bhd has appointed former airline executive and technopreneur Al-Ishsal Ishak as new group chief executive officer (CEO), in a move that signals the postal services group’s ambition to become a major player in the e-commerce delivery business.
Shares in Pos Malaysia on Tuesday rebounded from its lowest level in a year.
Al-Ishsal’s appointment, effective Feb 2, came about following the abrupt departure of former boss Datuk Mohd Shukrie Mohd Salleh in December.
Pos Malaysia, in a filing with Bursa Malaysia today, said Datuk Azlan Shahrim, who had assumed the role of covering group executive officer, will return to his post of group chief operating officer.
Al-Ishsal, 49, started his career with Turnaround Managers Inc before embarking into entrepreneurial endeavours mostly in the digital space from 1994 to 2008.
He had a stint as the chief digital officer at McCann Ericsson Worldgroup, CEO of Baraka Telecom (a Kuwaiti-owned outfit), senior vice president at Malaysia Airlines Bhd, as well as head of ancillary income at AIRASIA BHD.He was on the board of Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation and a former council member of National Technology Information Council.
