MELAKA: Mamee Double Decker (M) Sdn Bhd (Mamee) has teamed up with South Korea’s Shinsegae Food to produce halal food products for Islamic countries, said group chief executive officer Tan Sri Pang Tee Chew.
He described the joint-venture company, Shinsegae Mamee Sdn Bhd as the best platform for both companies to strengthen and expand in the Asia-Pacific region due to its vast market by sharing their expertise in the manufacturing and services of food and beverages.
“This collaboration can be defined as a new world to spearhead Mamee’s vision to become a comprehensive food solutions provider in an effort to expand our halal food market.
“With the halal food market becoming one of the world’s fastest-growing food markets, it will indirectly increase the demand for South Korean halal food as Malaysia is the pioneer of halal food in the region.
“In addition, the products produced are not only of high quality but also emphasised on halal standards and certification requirements from the globally-recognised Islamic development department,” he told reporters at the signing ceremony of the joint venture here yesterday.
Pang said the joint venture was also a stepping stone for Mamee in exploring and venturing into South Korean halal food services and manufacturing.
“We expect both markets to experience rapid growth due to the popularity of South Korean food and growing demand for halal food in the global market, and I hope this joint venture will help foster Mamee's aspiration to become a global supplier of halal food,” he said.
Shinsegae Food president Choi Sung-Jei said Shinsegae Mamee aimed to be a one-stop halal food and beverage provider of high and consistent quality products with authentic taste and services catered specially to all food operators.
“Mamee-Double Decker is a well-known household name with more than 40 years of experience in manufacturing and establishing a global distribution network,” he said. — Bernama
