DUBAI: Former president and CEO of Agrobank Datuk Wan Mohd Fadzmi Wan Othman was named the winner of the Islamic Retail Banking Leadership Award at the 3rd Islamic Retail Banking Awards (IRBA) at the JW Marriot Marquis Hotel here last week.

In conferring the award, IRBA founder Dr Humayon Dar said the committee was  impressed with Wan Mohd Fadzmi in transforming Agrobank into a full-fledged modern Islamic bank.

“He had been the driving force of the bank’s transformation for the past six years, strengthening its foundation and core business,”

“He pledged the bank’s strong commitment to become a Syariah compliant bank within three years and this was achieved on July 1, 2015. No other bank has managed to accomplish this feat.

“Agrobank also recorded a remarkable growth of 16.9% with total financing value reaching RM8.7bil for 2016, marking one of the best successes of the bank, he said.

Wan Mohd Fadzmi described the award as a special recognition for Agrobank and all the employees who worked hard and showed strong commitment.

"I dedicate the award to the outstanding team which worked tirelessly to champion the growth and development of Islamic banking,” he said.

More than 300 bankers and financial experts from all over the world attended this year’s IRBA ceremony which honoured 30 individuals, institutions and products drawn from the global Islamic financial services industry.
