Ringgit opens slightly lower against US dollar


At 9am(0100gmt), the local unit stood at 4.2840/2880 against the greenback from 4.2865/2895 last Friday.

KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit retreated from yesterday's positive momentum to open slightly lower against the greenback on mild profit taking activities, dealers said.

At 9.10am, the local unit was quoted at 4.2650/2700 against the US dollar from Wednesday's close of 4.2590/2620.

Against a basket of major currencies, the ringgit traded mostly higher. It rose against the Singapore dollar to 3.0825/0877 from 3.0853/0889, and appreciated versus the yen to 3.8787/8846 from 3.8995/8033.
 
It weakened to 5.5257/5348 from 5.5009/5074 compared to the British pound, but appreciated against the euro to 4.7973/8038 from 4.7995/7037. - Bernama
