KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysia Competition Commission (MyCC) remains focused on raising the awareness of stakeholders in both the private and public sectors, as well as educating them, about the implications of bid rigging and on enforcing the Competition Act 2010.

It also needs to build additional capacity and pursue knowledge and expertise in competition law through networking efforts, especially with the Finance Ministry, the National Audit Department and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, said the National Transformation Programme Annual Report 2016 released on Tuesday by the Performance Management and Delivery Unit (Pemandu).

In terms of standards promotion and compliance, the report stated that Standards Malaysia would work with relevant ministries and agencies to ensure that certification and standards compliance were made mandatory for companies to be eligible for schemes and incentives from ministries and agencies.

“The Good Preparation Practice (GPP) will also be expanded to more products to increase demand for standard compliance. Standard Malaysia will continuously ensure that the number of testing facilities and certifying bodies will be increased,” it said.

In terms of sector liberalisation, Pemandu said the Malaysia Productivity Corp (MPC) would undertake a case study to identify the best solution to reduce unnecessary regulatory burdens on oil and gas services equipment maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) companies to lower their operating cost.

“Due to prevailing economic conditions, large companies such as Schlumberger, Kencana Petroleum and Baker Hughes are experiencing challenges from the MRO price hike, which affects small and medium enterprise contractors.

“The results of the case study will be used by MPC to replicate the model for MRO in aircraft and automotive, in line with the aspirations to establish MRO hubs in Malaysia,” it added. - Bernama
