Scomi Group names Zubaidi as first country president for Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: Scomi Group Bhd has appointed Zubaidi Harun as the first country president for its Malaysia operations.

The energy sector services provider, which has offices in 22 countries, said in a statement that he would be responsible for growing the group’s Malaysian businesses in various industries, including oil and gas, marine, transport, chemicals and renewable energy.

In addition, he will continue to head the group’s communications department.

Scomi said Zubaidi had been with the group since April 2004, serving in various senior capacities.

Before the current appointment, he had been vice president of business development & group communications.

He had also served in senior management capacity covering oil and gas as well as public transportation division.

After graduating with a bachelor of commerce degree from the Australian National University in 1988, he began his professional career with then Coopers & Lybrand.

In 1989, he joined Arab-Malaysian Merchant Bank in the internal audit department. Subsequently, he served in the corporate finance department until 1996 during which he undertook various corporate advisory exercises advising corporate clients.

Later on, he worked with several Malaysian conglomerates such as the Abrar Group, Malaysian Resources Corp Berhad and Putera Capital Bhd where he managed several portfolios including corporate finance and planning.

Scomi Group currently has four other country presidents -- for Brazil, Indonesia, Australia and India.
