KUALA LUMPUR: Axiata Bhd unit edotco is pushing ahead with its foray into the Internet of Things (IoT) aspirations and it will provide 25 sites for low-power long-range wireless protocol (LoRa) networks in Klang Valley.
It said on Tuesday it had reached an agreement to support the IoT aspirations of Axiata and Atilze.
Axiata and Atilze recently announced their 12-month collaboration which will see them undertake trials, explore, develop and pursue viable IoT opportunities across Southeast Asia.
The immediate focus being connected car solutions, and commercialising city-wide LoRa network deployments by implementing proof-of-concept (POC) pilots in Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand.
LoRa technology allows for connectivity solutions at reduced costs with wide coverage and efficient power consumption, making it an environmentally friendly solution as well.
Axiata said several global telecom companies have thrown their weight behind this technology, designed to cater to IoT applications and services.
edotco group chief sales and marketing officer Wan Zainal Adileen Wan Puteh said the recent developments represent an exciting opportunity for edotco to pursue high quality innovative telecoms infrastructure solutions.
“The efficiencies and seamless connectivity that can be achieved by leveraging our wide infrastructure coverage and regional footprint will enable breakthrough applications to be implemented,” he said.
Even at the POC stages, established innovative infrastructure plays a critical role in providing the right support for any potential deployment.
edotco is a regional integrated telecommunications infrastructure services company in Asia with more than 16,000 towers in Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Pakistan and Myanmar.
