StanChart expects BNM to ease monetary policy

KUALA LUMPUR: Standard Chartered Research expects Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) to ease the monetary policy if the gross domestic product  (GDP) growth were to fall close to four per cent and the outlook turns more uncertain.

"We do not rule out a similar move by BNM ... with so many central banks cutting rates this year. We think that the central bank has the scope to cut policy rates to support growth if required," it said in a note today.
