MARKETERS should stop using race, age or even income-based demographics for customer segmentation as they are “meaningless”, according to a shopper marketing and customer intelligence expert.
“These should be used to describe a segment rather than to create a segment. No two Malay customers, for example, are the same,” says SAS Malaysia head for customer intelligence Michael Hawkins.
