KUALA LUMPUR: Popular Book Co (M) Sdn Bhd, the largest book store chain in Malaysia, is targeting sales of RM10mil for its ongoing “Merdeka Double Promotion”, which ends on Sept 1.

Executive director Lim Lee Ngoh said this was a “conservative” target given the promotion coincided with the current school holidays, the incentives given during the period and the upcoming Merdeka celebrations.

“It is quite the norm for parents to bring their children to visit our outlets during school holidays and take advantage of the promotions,” she said after the launch of the programme last Thursday.

She said free gifts would also attract a lot of sales.

“With every purchase of RM120 and above in a single receipt, customers will receive an exclusive notebook designed specially in conjunction with the Merdeka Celebrations,” she said.

She said the other promotion highlight was the month-old Muhibbah Photography Contest which would end on Sept 15.

“As a major Malaysian book retailer, we have a social responsibility to promote the spirit of muhibbah amongst our customers,” she said.

The photography contest is open to all customers with any purchase of RM20 and above at Popular and Harris Bookstores.

Meanwhile, Lim said the company planned to open three outlets by year-end.

At present, the company has 59 outlets nationwide.

The first new outlet would open in Bukit Mertajam, Penang, followed by one in Terengganu in November, Lim said.

“The third one will be in Kluang, Johor,” she said.
