Airline reports RM280mil loss on high fuel costs


MALAYSIA Airlines (MAS) has reported a loss of RM280.7mil for the three months ended June 30, 2005 as a result of rising oil prices, even though sales grew by 17%. 

For the same period a year ago, the airline reported a net profit of RM26.6mil. Sales were up 17% to RM2.8bil from RM2.4bil a year ago due to stronger growth in load factor which was recorded on the Australian and New Zealand, Asean and European routes. International passenger revenue improved by 22% to RM2bil from RM1.7bil previously.
