PRIME Minister Datuk Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamad said there is no intention of making “changes” to the current ringgit peg to the US dollar introduced in Sept 1, 1998 following the Asian financial crisis.

“However, local business community should give due consideration when purchasing goods from overseas, particularly with the US dollar depreciating by more than 30% since 2001,” he said when commenting on the ringgit peg to the US dollar at the 2nd session of Budget 2004 Dialogue in Putrajaya yesterday.
