YANGON; Myanmar has begun welcoming 12 globally threatened bird species as migratory birds at the Moeyungyi Wetland Wildlife Sanctuary during the current winter season, according to reports.
Due to the El Niño phenomenon, authorities have been monitoring possible changes in the arrival patterns of migratory birds at wetlands and wildlife sanctuaries during the winter season. Migratory birds have now begun arriving at Moeyungyi Lake and its surrounding wetland areas.
During the winter season, globally threatened migratory bird species, including the Black-headed Ibis, Greater Adjutant, Painted Stork, River Tern, Black-necked Stork, Lesser Adjutant, Black-headed Gull, cranes, eagles and other waterbirds, have been recorded at the Moeyungyi Wetland Wildlife Sanctuary in Bago Region.
