Cambodia targets universal access to adequate nutrition by 2030, says PM

PHNOM PENH (Xinhua): Cambodia aims to ensure universal access to adequate, safe, nutritious food while protecting all citizens from every form of malnutrition by 2030, Prime Minister Hun Manet said on Friday.

In a message marking the 13th National Nutrition Day, Hun Manet emphasised that food security and nutrition are vital for human capital development, improved work efficiency, sustainable economic growth, and social progress.

Over the past two decades, Cambodia's nutrition situation and human capital development have made remarkable progress through the government's dedicated efforts, he said.

With strong commitment and cross-sectoral collaboration, food security and nutrition issues have been addressed for all citizens, leaving no one behind, Hun Manet said.

Despite these gains, the prime minister said that persistent challenges require effective, ongoing solutions. These include stunting, wasting, micronutrient deficiencies, anemia, overweight, obesity, and related non-communicable diseases.

To combat these issues, the Southeast Asian nation has set clear 2030 targets, aiming to reduce the under-five stunting rate to below 19 percent and the wasting rate to below 6 per cent, he added. -- Xinhua
