VIENTIANE (Xinhua): The Lao government and the United Nations have officially endorsed the Laos-UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework 2027-2031, outlining their joint priorities for advancing sustainable development over the next five years.
The endorsement ceremony, held in Lao capital Vientiane on Wednesday, was co-chaired by Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Thongsavanh Phomvihane, and the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Laos Bakhodir Burkhanov, the local Pasaxon newspaper reported on Thursday.
The framework focuses on three key goals: people's well-being, governance and institutions, and environment and sustainable development. It also identifies 10 priority areas of cooperation aligned with Laos' national development strategies and long-term vision.
Speaking at the ceremony, Thongsavanh reaffirmed the government's commitment to strengthening its longstanding partnership with the UN and development partners. He expressed appreciation for the UN's continued support in advancing national development and improving people's well-being, emphasizing the importance of coordinated and effective implementation to achieve tangible, lasting results.
Also speaking at the ceremony, Burkhanov said the framework reflects the UN's commitment to supporting Laos' national development priorities, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and the vision of the 10th National Socio-Economic Development Plan.
He added that funds and programs are expected to contribute about 510 million U.S. dollars over the five-year period to support the framework's implementation. Enditem -- Xinhua
