YANGON: Two women who falsely reported being robbed in Pathein Gyi Township, Mandalay, were sentenced to six months in prison and hard labour by the Pathein Gyi Township Court on Oct 6, it was reported.

Various organisations, including the Patheingyi Township Police, conducted an investigation after the administrator received a phone call at around 11am on Oct 5 reporting a robbery at a house on Siddhi Aung Street, Kondan Ward, Nan Oo Lwin Village Tract in Patheingyi Township.

The incident occurred at the home of U Soe Min Htwe, a resident of Kondan Village, when his 28-year-old wife Ma and her 21-year-old worker were at home when six unknown men said to be armed with a handgun, long knives, a machetes, and a motorcycle arrived.

They then allegedly entered the home and demanded 1.5 million kyats from Ma, but when Ma said she did not have any, they searched the home and broke open the locked wardrobe in the bedroom with a hammer, took 100 million kyats and two phones, and stole the earrings Ma was wearing and fled.

The police investigated the incident and found that Ma had filed a complaint against one Lee Si because Ma had apparently owed him 4.5 million kyats worth of clothes.

"Ma was afraid that her husband would find out that she owed money for the clothes, so she went to the administrators and reported the robbery to them without any accomplices."

"There, the police closed all the gates and conducted searches and checks. Later, it turned out that the complaint was false, so they filed a lawsuit," said the Patheingyi Township police station commander.

Ma and her worker, who falsely reported the robbery, were charged by Pathein Gyi Police Station Commander, Deputy Superintendent Win Htut, and the case was filed at the Pathein Gyi Township Court.

The court accepted the case under General Criminal Case No. (276/2026) and sentenced them to six months in prison and hard labour under Section (182) of the Penal Code. - Eleven Media/ANN
