HONG KONG: A minibus driver has been hospitalised after her vehicle collided with a medium goods truck in Hong Kong, causing injuries to 18 others.

Police said the accident occurred at around 9.22am on Monday (Oct 12), when a green minibus and a medium goods truck collided on San Tin Highway on the Yuen Long-bound side of the road near Fairview Park.

According to police, a total of nine men and 10 women were injured in the crash. The accident prompted authorities to close two lanes of the road, leading to severe traffic congestion.

“Two men from the truck were injured, while the remaining injured were the driver and passengers from the minibus,” a police spokeswoman said, adding that the minibus driver was briefly trapped inside the wreckage before being rescued.

She sustained injuries to her head, neck and legs, while the others had minor injuries.

Photos circulating online showed that the front of the minibus was seriously damaged, with the driver’s side of the vehicle crushed and the windscreen shattered.

The rear of the yellow truck was damaged on the left side, with debris scattered on the road.

Several injured passengers sat on the roadside awaiting medical treatment. One was seen with a bandage on her forehead. - South China Morning Post
