MOSCOW: Timor-Leste hopes to attract Russian tourists by capitalising on the popularity of the nearby Indonesian island of Bali, Foreign Minister Bendito Freitas said, reported Sputnik/RIA Novosti.

"Our country is very close to Bali, a popular Indonesian island for tourists. The flight takes just one hour and 40 minutes,” Freitas said when asked whether Timor-Leste could become a popular holiday destination for Russians.

The minister noted that Bali attracts visitors from around the world, including Russia.

"We would like to attract them to Timor-Leste so that they can see the beauty of our country. We have a beautiful sea, green mountains, and a rich and distinctive culture,” Freitas said.

Freitas visited Moscow from Oct 4 to 6 and met Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. - Bernama-Sputnik/RIA Novosti
