TOKYO: (Bernama-Xinhua) A fire broke out at a factory warehouse in Tochigi Prefecture, north of Tokyo, early Monday (Oct 12), and firefighters were still battling the blaze more than nine hours later, Xinhua reported, citing local media.

No injuries have been reported.

Shortly after 5 am local time, an employee at the factory in Nakagawa Town called the fire department to report smoke coming from the warehouse, public broadcaster NHK reported, citing police. The factory manufactures PET bottles and other plastic products.

Although the factory operates around the clock, no employees were inside the warehouse at the time, and all workers were safely evacuated.

A total of nine emergency vehicles, including fire engines, have been dispatched to the scene. As of 2.30 pm, more than nine hours after the fire was reported, black smoke was still billowing from the warehouse, and flames remained visible. - Bernama-Xinhua
