BANGKOK: (Bernama) Malaysians in Bangkok have been urged to exercise caution and remain vigilant as persistent heavy rain and flooding continue to disrupt roads and daily activities across the Thai capital, with all 50 districts declared disaster zones.
In an advisory issued Saturday (Sept 26), the Malaysian Embassy in Bangkok urged Malaysians residing in or travelling to the city to keep abreast of the latest weather, road, and traffic conditions and plan their journeys in advance.
"Malaysians are advised to check road and flood conditions before travelling, allow additional travel time, avoid flood-affected areas, and consider alternative routes or modes of transport where necessary,” it said.
The embassy cautioned that weather and road conditions could change rapidly, particularly in flood-affected areas, and urged Malaysians to monitor local conditions and follow advisories and instructions issued by the relevant Thai authorities.
It said the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) provides an online Road Flood Monitoring System that allows the public to check road conditions and water levels at monitoring points across the capital.
The embassy said Malaysians could also report flooding or standing water through Traffy Fondue or contact the BMA Hotline at 1555, which operates around the clock.
For travel information, assistance or enquiries, Malaysians may contact the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Contact Centre at 1672 or the Tourist Police at 1155.
Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt earlier declared all 50 districts in the capital disaster zones, following persistent heavy rain that caused flooding and traffic disruptions.
Flooding was reported in 93 districts, 350 sub-districts, and 1,425 villages, while waterlogging affected 44 road locations in Bangkok.
As of 7 am on Saturday, flooding remained in 21 provinces nationwide, affecting 27,109 households and 84,605 people, according to the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM).
At press time, no casualties had been reported in Bangkok, although some e-hailing services had stopped accepting bookings due to road closures, while some shops remained closed. - Bernama
