YANGON: Myanmar held a ceremony in Naypyidaw on Wednesday (Sept 16) to mark World Ozone Day 2026, according to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation on Thursday (Sept 17).
At the ceremony, Union Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation U Hsan Oo said efforts to protect the ozone layer would help mitigate climate change and reduce carbon emissions through the use of environmentally friendly refrigerants and technologies that prevent ozone depletion.
He stressed the importance of protecting ecosystems, agriculture and food security from the risks posed by solar ultraviolet radiation, adding that preserving the ozone layer is essential for food security, climate stability and mitigating global warming and climate change.
This year's World Ozone Day theme is "Global Action for a Cooler Planet."
The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed Sept. 16 as the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer, also known as World Ozone Day, in 1994. - Xinhua
