TOKYO: A train departed from Shimauchi Station in Matsumoto, Nagano Prefecture on the JR Oito Line without a conductor on board, causing delays on some trains, East Japan Railway Co.’s Nagano business headquarters announced Friday (Sept 11).
According to the announcement, the conductor had stepped off the train onto the platform for a safety confirmation on a local three-car train departing from Shinano-Omachi bound for Matsumoto at 12.54pm on the day.
However, the train driver mistakenly assumed the conductor had already boarded the train and proceeded to depart.
The driver realized the mistake while the train was in motion and arranged for a replacement conductor. - The Yomiuri Shimbun
