MANDALAY, (Myanmar): The police have arrested four men allegedly involved in the theft of 17 air conditioner units from Mandalay General Hospital, according to reports.
Officials at Chan Aye Tha San Township Police Station filed a complaint on Aug 6 after air conditioners went missing from various departments at Mandalay General Hospital, including the emergency department, main X-ray department, emergency department temporary classroom, and main operating room.
Police initially picked up a person who was found removing an air conditioner unit at a temple near the hospital.
Upon investigation, it was revealed that the man was an air conditioning service worker and was involved in the theft of air conditioners from various departments in the hospital for several days, taking them one by one, carrying them in bulk, and removing the copper pipes, as he saw fit, even during the day.
"The theft did not happen in one day. If they were to steal the radiators, copper pipes, and compressors one by one in the daytime, they would remove them.
"They would also remove them without a compressor. They would remove the fans, gas boilers, copper pipes, motors, coils, etc. as they had time.
"They were experts in repairing air conditioners. How could an ordinary thief be so quick?
"They stole so neatly that they would not notice until the air conditioner was turned on.
"They would not have been able to open one by one. The air conditioner would not have been able to open without one of them, so the total number of cases opened by the police station was 17," said the investigating officer regarding the perpetrators.
It is learned that a cleaning staff member from the hospital and a family member were among those who allegedly stole the air conditioners.
They are being arrested and investigated at City Police Station No. (8) under Section 6 (1) of the Public Property Protection Act (PA) 110/2026. - Eleven Media/ANN
