TOKYO: Typhoon Krovanh, also known as Typhoon No. 24, is moving Thursday (Sept 3) over the waters off Minami-Daito Island in Okinawa Prefecture toward the Daito Islands region and the main island of Okinawa.
Krovanh is forecast to move northward to the Amami Islands area in Kagoshima Prefecture on Friday, then make a U-turn and change course southward, approaching the main island of Okinawa and the Daito Islands region again.
According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, as of 9am local time on Thursday, the typhoon was moving north at a speed of 30km per hour over the sea approximately 90km northwest of Minami-Daito Island. Its central pressure was 985 hectopascals with maximum instantaneous wind speed of 35 metres per second.
Due to the typhoon, heavy rain is expected to continue through Saturday across a wide area, mainly on the Pacific side from western to eastern Japan. - The Japan News/ANN
