Over 80% of Brunei population has access to formal financial services: central bank

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: More than 80 per cent of Brunei's population has access to formal financial services, Rashidah Sabtu, Brunei Darussalam Central Bank (BDCB, pic) managing director, said on Wednesday (Sept 2).

Speaking at the launch of National Financial Literacy Day (NFLD) 2026, she said financial inclusion must be complemented by strong financial literacy and responsible financial behaviours to support long-term financial well-being.

Rashidah also said the National Financial Literacy Survey 2026 conducted in the country recorded a Digital Financial Literacy score of 43 per cent.

She said the findings underscore the need to further strengthen individuals' ability to confidently and safely navigate an increasingly digital financial landscape.

The NFLD 2026, running from Wednesday to Friday, aims to strengthen financial knowledge, encourage positive financial habits and promote greater financial well-being among the people of Brunei. - Xinhua
