BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Twenty-eight teams from Brunei, Sabah and Sarawak are competing in the two-day Brunei Open Tug-of-War Championship 2026, which began on Saturday (Aug 29) at the Tutong Community Hall Complex field.
The competition features 16 teams in the 560-kilogramme category and 12 in the 680-kilogramme category, including three visiting teams in each division from Sabah and Sarawak. Matches are being contested in a round-robin format.
Tutong Assistant District Officer Awangku Arif Anuar Ahmad officiated the opening ceremony.
Organised by the Tutong District Office in conjunction with Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah’s 80th birthday celebration, the championship aims to preserve the traditional sport and encourage youth participation.
Local microbusinesses are also operating at the venue throughout the event, which concludes on Aug 30. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
