Retired Hindu teacher, wife and two children found dead in Bangladesh

DHAKA: In a shocking incident, a retired Hindu school teacher, his wife and two children were found dead inside their locked house in the Daspara (Machhuapara) area of Rangpur city in Bangladesh in suspicious circumstances, prompting a police investigation.

The bodies were recovered by officials at around 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, IANS reported.

Nazmul Kader, officer-in-charge of Rangpur Metropolitan Kotwali Police Station, said officials recovered the bodies after entering the locked house.

According to The Daily Star, the deceased have been identified as retired Rangpur Zilla School teacher Ganapati Chakraborty, 65; his wife, Pritilata Chakraborty, 50; their daughter, Agami Chakraborty Prarthi, 23; and their son, Priyam Chakraborty, 12.

Local residents informed that Ganpati retired from Rangpur Zilla School on December 31 last year, while his daughter, Agami, completed her Master’s degree in English from Rangpur Carmichael College this year and his son was a Class 5 student at Rangpur Zilla School.

The incident came to light when family members were unable to contact them.

Puja Chakraborty, Pritilata’s younger sister, stated that she last spoke to her sister on Thursday afternoon, adding that all four mobile phones used by them had been switched off since Thursday night.

“We came to Daspara on Saturday night after finding their phones switched off. The main gate of the house was locked, and all the lights inside were off. Police later arrived, broke the lock and entered the house, where they recovered the bodies,” she told The Daily Star.

As of now, they have not been able to understand the motive behind the incident.

“I cannot understand who killed my sister and her entire family, or why and when it happened. My sister’s husband was a very good man. He had no enemies. They had built a new house in Daspara and were living there,” Puja said.

Soma Chakraborty, Ganapati’s niece, informed that she last spoke to her uncle on Thursday afternoon.

“After receiving the news on Saturday night, I came here and saw his body. The bodies of my aunt, sister and brother were also lying there. My uncle had no enemies. After retiring from school, he started working as a homoeopathic practitioner,” she said.

Subir Chowdhury, in-charge of Rangpur Metropolitan CID, said that the bodies of the mother and daughter were recovered from the staircase, while Ganapati’s body was found on the roof and his son was found under a bed.

“We are investigating. The investigation will determine who was responsible for the killings,” he said. - The Statesman/ANN
