Japanese teen arrested for allegedly setting fire to home, trying to kill parents

TOKYO: A 15-year-old boy was arrested on Tuesday (Aug 18) on suspicion of setting fire to his home in Omuta, Fukuoka Prefecture, in an attempt to kill his parents while they were sleeping, police said.

The boy is suspected of spreading what is believed to be gasoline at his home at 1:05 a.m. on Tuesday before lighting a cloth on fire and throwing it on the liquid. His parents, both 51, noticed the fire and fled the scene, but the father suffered burns, mainly to his back. The house was destroyed by the fire, according to the police.

The boy then visited a police box in the city about an hour later, telling the police that he set fire to his home, the police said. The boy said he was stressed by the physical abuse he receives on a regular basis from his father, according to the police. - The Japan News/ANN
