JAKARTA: Indonesia has announced an increase on its visa-on-arrival (VOA) fee from Rp500,000 (RM115) to between Rp750,000 and Rp1 million (RM230) as part of an adjustment to its immigration charges.
Director General of Immigration Hendarsam Marantoko said the adjustment took into account fluctuations in the rupiah exchange rate with the existing fee considered too low in terms of state revenue.
"When they fill in their e-visa in their country, they will be charged Rp750,000. What is the purpose? To prevent congestion upon arrival at the airport,” he said according to Antara News Agency on Wednesday (Aug 12).
Hendarsam said those who had not completed the application before arrival would instead be charged Rp1 million, a higher rate intended to encourage travellers to complete the process in advance.
He said the move was also aimed at improving immigration services and reducing queues at airports, as Indonesia seeks to maintain and improve Soekarno-Hatta International Airport’s standing in the Skytrax World Airport Awards. - Bernama
