HANOI: One woman was killed after a wooden boat exploded and caught fire while traveling on the Sai Gon River in Vietnam's Ho Chi Minh City on Saturday morning (Aug 8), the Vietnam News Agency reported.
The incident occurred at around 6:30 a.m., when residents heard a loud explosion from the river. The boat was then engulfed in flames, sending a large column of smoke into the air.
The explosion sent three people on board into the river. The woman died, while the other two were rescued by people on nearby boats and taken ashore, the report said.
An initial assessment suggested that the explosion may have been caused by a gas cylinder.
