One killed, 36 hospitalised in food poisoning incident in Pakistan's Punjab

ISLAMABAD: (Bernama-Xinhua) At least one person was killed and 36 other members of a family were hospitalised after eating poisonous vermicelli in Rojhan area of Pakistan's Punjab province, rescue officials said Sunday (Aug 2), reported Xinhua.

The incident occurred in Sanghi Basti Mithha Sanjrani locality of Rojhan, where children, elderly people, men and women from the same family developed symptoms of food poisoning after eating the vermicelli, according to a Rescue 1122 statement.

One girl died in the incident, while 36 affected people were shifted to nearby hospitals for medical treatment, the statement said, adding that four of the patients were in critical condition and receiving intensive care.

Rescue teams reached the site shortly after the incident and provided first aid to the affected people before transporting them to hospitals, the officials added.

Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the contamination. - Bernama-Xinhua
