Luness launches to close a hidden gap: Malaysian women are leaving the workforce at menopause age

In Malaysia, female workforce participation falls from 69% among women in their early 40s to just 34% by their late 50s — a decline that coincides with the years most women pass through perimenopause and menopause.

Today, Luness, a digital health platform built specifically for perimenopause and menopause care, launches to help close that gap, opening a private and accessible path to care from home.

“Women in their 40’s and 50’s are in senior roles, at the peak of their careers, while also juggling the demands of family. This is also the period where perimenopause and menopause happen,” said Fontaine Fong, Co-Founder and CEO of Luness during a special function to introduce the programme in KL.

The transition affects roughly half the population, yet most Malaysian women never seek help for their symptoms, and even fewer receive treatment. Part of the reason is that the symptoms are not the ones people expect: in Malaysian women, joint pain and brain fog are more common than hot flashes — signs so easily mistaken for stress, ageing or overwork that many women, and their doctors, never connect them to hormonal change.

“Unlike pregnancy or mental burnout, perimenopause is rarely talked about openly in corporate Asia. Women suffer in silence through brain fog, severe sleep disturbances, fatigue, and anxiety, often misinterpreting these symptoms as losing their professional edge or early burnout," said Azran Osman Rani, Founder & CEO, Naluri.

Luness was created to change that. The platform is built on three promises: personalised care tailored to each woman's hormonal journey; easy access — real medical guidance from home, a blood test to check where you are in your transition, and care that is science-backed, grounded in clinical evidence and guided by doctors experienced in hormonal health. The aim is to make getting answers as easy as the first click.

‘Luness exists because too many women in Malaysia are told their symptoms are just stress, or just age. We built a platform where they can get a real answer, from home, without waiting years for someone to take them seriously," added Fontaine Fong.

Meanwhile, Dr Neogh, Co-Founder and Chief Medical Officer, Luness, explained that: "Perimenopause is a medical transition, not a personality change. For the right woman, at the right time, with the right treatment, care can be safe, evidence-based and life-changing — and every woman deserves that without having to fight for it."

The launch took place on 30 July 2026 at Royal Bedouin, Sri Hartamas, with a live panel moderated by Luness Co-Founder Hazleena Hashim, bringing together corporate leader Azran Osman-Rani, Luness co-founder & women’s health advocate Sazzy Falak, and health educator Monitar Tan for a candid conversation on symptoms, silence, mental health, relationships and what it takes to seek help.

“This conversation needs to keep on happening- the more people talk about it, the more people are aware, and we can reach more women across Malaysia to take action for their health and not suffer in silence," said Sazzy Falak, rated to be among the foremost Malaysian actresses currently seen in the local entertainment industry.

Luness is encouraging every Malaysian woman navigating this stage — and everyone who loves or works alongside her — to take the first step: learn the symptoms, check how you're feeling, and know that real care is now one consultation away.

As someone who has gone through the difficulties of perimenopause and has taken action through Luness, Monitar Tan knows all too well that you don’t have to suffer while there is a solution out there.

“It was only after starting treatment that I realised how much these symptoms had been affecting me. For me, the biggest change was recognising that coping with symptoms is not necessarily the same as feeling well. We don’t have to accept feeling like we have lost ourselves silently. Listening to our body, asking for help and taking that first step is the greatest gift we can give ourselves. And be kind to ourselves," said Monitar Tan.

For the record, Luness is a digital health platform offering personalised menopause and midlife care for modern women, combining online consultations, blood testing and doctor-guided treatment plans. Built specifically for perimenopause and menopause —Luness connects women with doctors experienced in hormonal health and gives them a private, convenient way to get answers and treatment from home.
