BENGALURU: A morning cricket game turned into a crime investigation in Bengaluru after a group of boys found a severed human head lying on a ground in Kodathi on Wednesday.
Varthur police have begun searching for the remaining body and are examining CCTV footage from nearby areas.
Investigators are also trying to identify the victim and determine where the killing took place.
The boys had reached the ground early in the morning to play cricket when they noticed the head on the premises.
They immediately alerted the police.
A team from Varthur police station reached the scene and carried out a preliminary inspection.
No other body parts had been found at the ground at the time of the initial search.
Police suspect that the head may have been transported to the cricket ground and dumped there.
Tyre marks believed to have been left by a two-wheeler were found near the scene.
Investigators are examining whether a motorcycle was used to bring the head to the ground.
CCTV recordings from roads and properties around the area are being reviewed to trace suspicious movements and reconstruct the sequence of events.
The identity of the victim has not yet been established.
Police are gathering information about missing persons and pursuing other leads that could help determine when and where the victim was killed.
The motive also remains unclear.
The discovery caused alarm among residents as police continued searching the area for evidence and the remaining body.
