JAKARTA (VnExpress): Indonesia will raise fees for foreigners applying for citizenship through naturalization starting Aug. 1 under a new government regulation signed by President Prabowo Subianto.
Government Regulation No. 30 of 2026, which governs non-tax state revenue collected by the Ministry of Law, was signed on July 2 and will take effect on Aug. 1, according to CNBC Indonesia.
Under the new rules, the application fee for foreign spouses seeking Indonesian citizenship through marriage will increase 67% from 15 million rupiah (US$834) to 25 million rupiah per application.
The fee for other foreign nationals applying for Indonesian citizenship through the standard naturalization process will also rise, jumping from 50 million rupiah to 75 million rupiah, Xinhua reported.
Additionally, the regulation impacts children with dual citizenship. Kompas reported that the declaration fee for these individuals to choose Indonesian citizenship formally has doubled, increasing from 1 million to 2 million rupiah.
Indonesia is the fourth most populous country in the world and the most in Southeast Asia.
As of 2026, demographic estimates place its population between 283 million and 288 million people, accounting for approximately 3.5% of the total global population.
