Nurse in India allegedly kills husband by injecting toilet cleaner after bid to murder by throwing him from roof fails

HYDERABAD: A32-year-old woman, working as a nurse at a private hospital in Telangana’s Nizamabad district, has been arrested for allegedly killing her husband by injecting toilet cleaner into his veins through a cannula.

The victim was undergoing treatment after he survived an earlier murder attempt, IANS reported.

The accused has been identified as Sandhya (pic). She allegedly killed her husband, Dayini Prashanth, 35, by injecting toilet cleaning liquid along with crushed sleeping pills into his intravenous (IV) line on June 30.

According to police officials, Sandhya took the extreme step to continue her extramarital relationship with a person, named Anil, 35. They were allegedly joined by Anil’s friend Venkat Sai alias Bunty.

An investigation into the matter was carried out after a complaint was received from the victim’s mother, who raised suspicion about the cause of his death.

Notably, Prashanth was working in the Gulf over the past two years. He came back to India on June 27 and decided not to go back abroad.

Due to this, Sandhya considered him as an obstacle to continue her extramarital relationship with Anil, police said. She later hatched a conspiracy with the help of Anil and Sai to eliminate her husband.

During interrogation, it came to light that the accused killed Prashanth after an earlier attempt to eliminate him after pushing him off the terrace failed.

Police officials said that Sai visited Prashanth’s residence on June 29 and made him consume a lot of liquor. Thereafter, he took him to the terrace of the building and pushed him as per Sandhya’s instructions over the phone.

However, the victim somehow survived with serious injuries. At that time, Sandhya convinced Prashanth that he had accidentally fallen because he was drunk and got him admitted to a government hospital for treatment.

Later on, they shifted him to a private hospital and brought him home.

Since Sandhya had undergone nurse training in the past, she later decided to administer IV fluids at home.

As part of their plan, she injected a toxic mixture of toilet cleaner and crushed sleeping pills through a cannula. She even pushed him down from the cot, which led to his death.

At first, she made all possible efforts to pass off her husband’s death as a result of his deteriorating health following his fall from the terrace.

However, Prashanth’s mother, who lives separately, filed a complaint as she expressed doubts over the cause of his death. - The Statesman/ANN
