PHNOM PENH/BANGKOK: Cambodia announced on Monday (July 6) that an explosive device detonated along its border with Thailand on Sunday, injuring four soldiers on patrol.
Lieutenant General Maly Socheata, an undersecretary of state and spokeswoman for Cambodia's Ministry of National Defence, said the incident occurred on Sunday at 12:35 p.m. during a Cambodian patrol operation in a cashew plantation area of Chouk Kruos and Thma Don villages in Oddar Meanchey province.
"The wounded soldiers are currently receiving attentive medical care from medical teams and relevant personnel," Socheata added.
Meanwhile, Thai Army spokesperson Winthai Suvaree issued a statement on Sunday, saying that at the time of the incident, Thai troops were conducting routine patrols on the Thai side and heard an explosion from the Cambodian side.
The Royal Thai Army emphasised that its forces did not use any weapons or throw grenades. A rapid investigation with the responsible Thai units confirmed that the explosion occurred on Cambodian territory and was not caused by Thai forces. - Xinhua
