MORIOKA, Japan: Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani has reappeared in his hometown in Oshu, Iwate Prefecture, as rice field art.

A group of local farmers came up with the idea of using rice plants of eight different colors to create the artwork. It shows Ohtani pitching beside his pet dog Decoy, who holds a ball in his mouth, and spreads over a roughly 0.3-hectare field in which Hitomebore and other rice varieties have been planted.

“I was amazed by the power of the artwork — you can even see Ohtani’s facial expression,” a 58-year-old woman from Kesennuma, Miyagi Prefecture, said. “I look forward to his spectacular performances as a two-way player.”

The artwork will be at its best until mid-August. The entire scene can be viewed from a nearby observation deck. - The Japan News/ANN
