BEIJING: China's immigration authorities have seized a total of 4.07 tonnes of drugs in 186 drug-related cases at border ports and areas so far this year, according to data released on Friday (June 26).

A total of 243 suspects have been apprehended in the operations, the National Immigration Administration (NIA) said.

In recent years, Chinese immigration authorities have maintained a tough crackdown on drug-related crimes along the borders, leveraging big-data applications to go after trafficking syndicates and networks.

The NIA said it would continue to improve the multidimensional prevention and control network and drug governance system for China's border ports and areas.

Immigration authorities will also upgrade their drug-interdiction tactics and techniques, advance an anti-narcotics special campaign, and enhance law enforcement cooperation with various countries and regions to block drugs at the borders, the NIA said. - Xinhua
