Over 60 illegal buildings demolished in Myanmar crackdown on online scam operations


YANGON: A total of 63 illegal buildings used for online scam and gambling operations in Shwe Kokko have been demolished as of June 23.

Authorities, in cooperation with relevant government departments, have been carrying out the systematic demolition of illegal structures and the destruction of equipment used in online fraud and gambling activities in Shwe Kokko and KK Park areas of Myawaddy Township, Kayin State.

On June 23, a seven-story residential building located in Shwe Kokko was demolished using controlled explosives as part of the ongoing operation.

Officials stated that among the 77 buildings identified as having been used for online scam and gambling activities, 57 were designated for demolition by heavy machinery, while 20 were scheduled to be destroyed through controlled explosions. The seven-story residential building demolished on June 23 was one of the structures designated for explosive demolition.

Authorities said that, to date, joint departmental teams have successfully demolished 63 illegal buildings linked to online scam and gambling operations. The remaining 14 illegal structures are scheduled to be demolished in the coming period as part of the continued crackdown. - Eleven Media/ANN
